About the Role

The Early Years Specialist SEN Support Officer will play a vital role in providing expert guidance and support to practitioners working with children with complex needs across Kingston and Richmond. As part of the Advisory team, this post holder will work closely with private, voluntary, and independent settings to help them implement strategies and interventions to support children with multiple needs or those requiring enhanced or targeted support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with settings to develop and implement personalized plans for children with complex needs, ensuring that their unique requirements are met.
  • Provide expert guidance on interaction and intervention strategies, monitoring their effectiveness and making adjustments as needed.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for SENCOs and other professionals, focusing on best practices and evidence-based approaches.
  • Support settings with statutory assessment paperwork, attend multi-agency meetings, and participate in panels and planning meetings as directed by the Senior Adviser Early Years SEND.
  • Contribute to the development of SEN training and networks, delivering programs as required and ensuring that the needs of children with complex needs are met.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of professionals, including parents and carers. You will also need to demonstrate strong organizational abilities, including time management, creative thinking, problem-solving, and multitasking.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience of working in an early years or similar setting.
  • Direct experience of supporting children with a range of additional needs and disabilities.
  • Sound knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and the Local Offer.
  • Substantial experience of planning for children with complex needs and adapting practice to meet identified needs.
  • Broad knowledge of interaction and intervention strategies to support learning and progress.
