Job Title: Volunteer & Befriending Coordinator Mental Health

Union Chapel UK is seeking a highly motivated and empathetic individual to join our team as a Volunteer & Befriending Coordinator Mental Health. This part-time role will be responsible for coordinating our outreach program, providing language support, and befriending asylum seekers residing in contingency hotels in Islington.

About the Role

We are looking for a person with experience in organizing community-based activities, knowledge of ESOL, and a background in working with volunteers. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of safeguarding concerns for vulnerable adults and be able to speak one or more of the languages spoken by hostel residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Run regular ESOL classes and organize new groups according to students' needs
  • Recruit volunteers who will provide regular learning opportunities and befriending for hotel residents
  • Arrange Safeguarding courses and DBS checks for volunteers
  • Manage a timetable for ESOL groups
  • Liaise with hotel staff and external partners to maximize learning opportunities for students
  • Plan English classes and provide appropriate learning materials and resources
Requirements
  • Experience of providing ESOL
  • Understanding of approaches to language learning
  • Experience of group work in a community setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding concerns for vulnerable adults
  • Ability to speak one or more of the languages spoken by hostel residents
  • Qualification in adult education
What We Offer

This part-time post is funded until Oct 2025 with the possibility of continued funding dependent on a review of the program's effectiveness. We offer a competitive salary of £21,418 (£30,596 pro rata for 31⁄2 days/week) and a supportive work environment.
