Main Responsibilities
As a Senior Radiotherapy Radiographer at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality radiotherapy services to patients with a variety of tumour sites. You will work closely with the Band 7 Radiographers, Medical Physics team, and the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team to ensure seamless care, communication, and service delivery.

Your key responsibilities will include:
  1. Managing a workload of patients undergoing radiotherapy, ensuring the safe and competent use of radiation and the highest standard of patient care.
  2. Providing advice regarding the management of complex radiotherapy-related situations.
  3. Being competent in image verification to evaluate field placement and taking any necessary action, including re-planning if appropriate.
  4. Working closely with the Band 7 treatment/planning staff, Medical Physics team, and the wider MDT to ensure seamless care, communication, and service delivery.
  5. Actively participating with the Band 7 team in the future development of their area of work, liaising with the wider Radiotherapy team as required.
  6. Auditing the practice of this work and making improvements as required, discussing these with the departmental Band 7 Radiographers.
  7. Reporting incidents and faults to appropriate staff immediately and ensuring all machine faults are logged appropriately.
  8. Deputising for the Band 7 staff as required.
  9. Liaising effectively with members of the MDT and the wider Hospital Trust as required, ensuring that specialist knowledge is integrated into all aspects of patient care and management.
  10. Supervising and instructing new junior staff, identifying training needs of existing junior staff, and discussing these with more senior radiographers when necessary.
  11. Being fully involved with the training and assessing of students from the partner higher education institution, liaising with the lecturer/practitioner.
  12. Reporting any patient complaints or non-compliance in accordance with departmental/Trust policy.
  13. Keeping abreast of any advances in Radiotherapy and attending courses as required.
  14. Carrying out further duties as delegated by the Radiotherapy Services Manager or via the Band 7 Radiographers to ensure smooth running of the department.

Professional Requirements
  • Hold valid and up-to-date registration with the HCPC and comply with HCPC guidelines in relation to professional issues, continuing professional development, and competence.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Trust policies and procedures and adopt these accordingly.
  • Maintain a flexible approach and carry out and develop the role according to professional or service needs.

Education and Development
  • Develop own skills and knowledge and participate in the education and training of others as appropriate.
  • Comply with mandatory training and continuing professional development requirements.
  • Be required to observe the provisions of, and adhere to, all of the Trust's policies and procedures.
