Senior Planning Policy Officer

Role Purpose:
- Support the effective development and regeneration of the Council by providing expert planning policy advice and guidance.
- Manage discrete research and policy development projects, including the management of consultants and stakeholders.
- Conduct planning policy and research tasks that enable the successful preparation, examination, and implementation of the Local Plan and associated Area Action Plans and Supplementary Planning Documents.
- Cross-Council working to deliver corporate objectives, including infrastructure funding and delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret the implications of other service area activities and make them known within the Planning Service.
- Be aware and act upon cross-service and corporate aims and procedures, contribute to initiatives that enhance service delivery, foster partnerships, and liaison with external agencies and organizations.
- Network, consult, and liaise with other Council staff and organizations to seek alignment of Planning Policy with other Council policies.
- Monitor the emergence of new policy and program initiatives by central Government and the Mayor for London, advise on these, and ensure timely and effective representations are made on the Council's behalf.
- Manage the preparation of evidence base research to support the development of planning policy and contribute to making data and analyses widely accessible and approachably presented.
- Be aware of and actively seek within the team the observance of local and statutory procedures and good administrative practice in relation to the preparation and implementation of planning policy.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of current Town and Country planning, practice, procedures, and legislation, in one or more areas, within planning, enforcement, policy, or development management.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative in organizing workload and establishing priorities for action, and to carry out the necessary work to the required quality within given deadlines in a busy working environment.
- Experience of delivery of major policy documents to agreed timetables and in line with agreed standards.
- Experience working with a council or housing association.
- Ability to negotiate with stakeholders to achieve improvements to the quality and outcome of planning policies and to secure stakeholder support.
- Ability to present information, verbally and in writing, on planning policy matters in a manner that clearly demonstrates a thorough, structured, logical, and orderly approach.
Contract:
- Initial 6-month contract with the opportunity to extend.
- Pay negotiable depending on experience.
- PAYE via Umbrella.
- Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (Hybrid).
