Position Overview

The Greener NHS initiative, established to champion a pioneering commitment to achieve a net zero health service by 2040, is seeking a dedicated professional for a senior analytics position. This role is pivotal in enhancing our comprehension of our current status and evaluating our progress towards the national carbon reduction goals. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in carbon assessment, modeling, and a comprehensive understanding of various analytical techniques. A strong foundation in climate change or sustainability is crucial, along with expert knowledge in best practices for accounting, footprinting, and reporting the carbon impact of diverse activities or products.

As a senior manager within the Greener NHS team, the successful applicant will collaborate with a dynamic group at the core of strategic decision-making, spearheading national initiatives and engaging closely with stakeholders and senior leadership to analyze and implement the strategies outlined in the Delivering a Net Zero NHS framework and the NHS Long Term Plan.

We are open to flexible working arrangements, including part-time, compressed hours, and job sharing for this position.

Key Responsibilities

In the role of Lead Manager - Carbon Strategy , you will oversee projects that involve:

  • Integrating various data collections, custom data extracts, and unique research outputs to establish a unified and accurate data source;
  • Enhancing our understanding of our current performance and how effectively we are meeting the national carbon reduction objectives;
  • Assisting in updates to the NHS England Board and public disclosures regarding NHS progress towards net zero commitments;
  • Refining and advancing the carbon modeling, analysis, and evidence that support the interventions detailed in the Delivering a Net Zero NHS report, addressing knowledge gaps.

Job Responsibilities

The Lead Manager - Carbon Strategy will have supervisory responsibilities and will also need to coordinate resources from analysts and other team members across the program, often working under tight deadlines.

Experience in delivering high-quality analysis swiftly is essential. This includes:

  • Applying a wide range of analytical methods to provide timely insights that meet current best practice standards;
  • Structuring complex problems and developing suitable analytical solutions, innovatively analyzing and triangulating data, and adapting strategies to address uncertainties;
  • Exercising analytical judgment when faced with intricate issues or incomplete data;
  • Taking a pragmatic approach to offering advice, clearly articulating complex concepts both orally and in writing to diverse audiences;
  • Building and nurturing collaborative relationships across the health system, including internal and external policy and analytical teams, providers, clinical experts, and challenging external partners and stakeholders, ensuring analyses are pertinent to their needs.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A master's degree in a relevant field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Operational Research, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline, or a bachelor's degree with equivalent analytical experience.
