Are you dedicated to providing exceptional Adult Mental Health services?

Seeking a role in a progressive learning environment? Eager to enhance your expertise in community mental health?

With comprehensive training and outstanding benefits, the Royal Borough of Greenwich is the perfect setting to advance your career.

At the Royal Borough of Greenwich, we appreciate our Social Workers and equip them with the necessary resources and environment to create a meaningful impact. We are eager to recruit motivated Social Workers who align with our vision for establishing a center of excellence. Opportunities are available in:

  • East Intensive Case Management for Psychosis (ICMP) Community Mental Health Team - 35 hours per week
  • West Intensive Case Management for Psychosis (ICMP) Community Mental Health Team - 35 hours per week
  • Older Adults Community Mental Health (OAMH) Team - 35 hours per week

Our Teams

ICMP East and West Teams

The ICMP provides a versatile service to all residents, aged 18 to 65, within the psychosis spectrum who currently require secondary community mental health treatment and support.

The service emphasizes social inclusion, recovery, self-management, and offering individuals choices and involvement in their treatment, while actively promoting their participation in the planning and execution of their care. This results in a personalized wellbeing plan that supports the individual's transition back to primary care.

Older Adults Community Mental Health Team

The Older Adults Mental Health team is a specialized integrated multidisciplinary team for individuals over 65 experiencing severe and enduring mental health challenges or a dementia diagnosis. The team delivers health and social care assessments, support and guidance for caregivers, and various interventions to enhance independent living and promote mental wellbeing.

The team offers support through care coordination and a series of short-term psychological groups aimed at older individuals assessed for the service. All professionals collaborate with the inpatient unit, crisis, and assessment team to evaluate the support that individuals require in the community, contribute to the multi-agency panel for those needing a care package, and discuss safe hospital discharges.

Expectations for Candidates:

All social workers are expected to manage a caseload effectively and work collaboratively with service users, their families, and caregivers to ensure a strength-based, person-centered approach remains central to all interventions.

Be part of a multidisciplinary team comprising social workers, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, support workers, lived experience practitioners, community psychiatric nurses, and administrative support.

Work independently with individuals, caregivers, and families to deliver a range of assessments and care interventions that promote mental health wellbeing and personalized outcomes, while fostering independence. You will be expected to perform statutory functions of the social work role, responding to requests for those presenting with care and support needs:

  • Social care assessments
  • Caregiver assessments
  • Court of protection
  • Safeguarding concerns and inquiries
  • Mental capacity assessments
  • Mental health assessments
  • Mental Health Act assessments

Senior social workers are expected to fulfill the role of an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) and must act as an AMHP on behalf of the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

We prioritize your job satisfaction - to support you in your role, you will receive:

  • One-on-one reflective professional supervision and AMHP post-assessment supervision
  • Access to a manager who is AMHP qualified
  • An AMHP mentor for additional support during your initial year of employment
  • 18 hours (3 days) of AMHP approval training annually
  • A structured induction into the Greenwich AMHP service
  • Up to 2 days every 5 years to complete your AMHP re-approval portfolio
  • Opportunities to engage in the practice education of social workers and AMHPs undergoing professional training
  • Access to Social Work, AMHP, and Reflective Practice Forums for peer group discussions, reflections, and supervision
  • A welcome meeting with the Head of Social Care and Mental Health Lead Social Worker to begin discussing and planning your continued professional development pathway
  • Access to protected time for fulfilling the requirements for your Social Work England registration
  • Access to the Royal Borough of Greenwich learning portal, training programs, reflective workshops, and events
  • Strong collaborative efforts between Royal Borough of Greenwich Health and Adults Services, Integrated Commissioning Board, and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, enabling efficient multi-agency working towards achieving a shared mission.

For these roles, you must possess:

  • A registered professional social work qualification
  • An AMHP qualification
  • Registration with Social Work England
  • This role will require an Enhanced DBS check

In return, we offer a range of benefits including:

  • Excellent Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Generous annual leave allowance of 29 days plus Bank Holidays
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements with good IT equipment
  • Vibrant Staff Networks
  • Reduced rate gym membership
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • GreenwichCard entitling you to discounts at local businesses
  • Payroll Giving Scheme
  • Travel expenses for business mileage and car parking
