Job Title: Project Engineer

Join Scottish Power as a Project Engineer and play a crucial role in designing and developing deliverable projects up to 11kV/ 33kV, typically to the value of circa £5m per project, along with associated unit volumes to support the annual delivery outputs of the district.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and design the district distribution network, ensuring system stewardship, network security, and integrity.
  • Undertake system analysis to determine load/generation connections, network alterations, reinforcement requirements, and derive solutions in line with Asset Management policies and customer requirements.
  • Manage regulatory aspects of managing connection requests and provide quotations, ensuring processes and reporting arrangements meet regulatory and licence requirements.
  • Agree scope, volumes, and unit costs to exploit best value from the regulatory contract.
  • Integrate asset stewardship values through sound engineering principles, coordinated planning, design, and ownership to improve integrity, safety, and longevity of the electrical network while providing minimum scheme costs for customer connections.
  • Manage 3rd party 'Point Of Connection' and design approvals activities within the SPM and SPD licence areas.
  • Drive continual performance improvement through analysis of outputs and feedback from internal and external sources.
  • Consider the application of innovative solutions to all designs, whether technological, procedural, or commercial.
  • Produce designs in accordance with unit or authorised prime costs to enable efficient delivery of outputs.
  • Develop and maintain robust stakeholder and customer relationships on behalf of Scottish Power to facilitate delivery of customer and stakeholder strategic objectives.
  • Promote an exemplary safety culture and ensure all safety legislation is implemented and delivered through all activities and incorporated into project designs.
Requirements:
  • Expert knowledge of design standards up to 33kV.
  • Expert knowledge of the regulatory environment, including relevant output and incentive mechanisms.
  • General commercial awareness with the ability to balance customer service, efficient network design, and ensuring maximum return on investment.
  • Effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management.
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgement to determine optimal solutions.
  • Awareness and understanding of key business drivers and the external commercial context in which ScottishPower is operating.
  • Technical and operational experience in a relevant engineering role.
  • Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.
  • Developed skills with network analysis modelling tools.
  • HNC Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a Network design role.
  • Relevant network construction and operational experience.
