Position Overview

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a distinguished entity, acting as the primary integrated healthcare provider in the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire region.

The role encompasses outpatient consultations, training in endoscopy, ward responsibilities, and participation in general medical on-call duties. The selected candidate will benefit from a tailored flexible schedule designed to accommodate their training requirements while engaging in numerous educational opportunities.

The clinical fellow will collaborate with a team comprising 2 Registrars, 2 Specialty trainees, and 3 Foundation Year doctors. Additionally, you will work alongside 4 IBD specialist nurses, 4 nurse endoscopists, and 2 Hepatology nurses. The inpatient unit accommodates 20-25 beds.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities listed below are not exhaustive and may be adjusted based on service needs.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the Gastroenterology Team at Great Western Hospital.
  • Engage in supervised Consultant-led outpatient clinics for new and returning patients.
  • Provide inpatient care for 20-25 patients.
  • Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Be involved in the general medicine on-call rota, including out-of-hours duties.
  • Engage in clinical audits.
  • Contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuous medical education activities.
  • Perform necessary duties during emergencies and unforeseen situations.

Detailed Role Description and Responsibilities

Management and Leadership Duties:

  • Support and mentor junior colleagues as appropriate.
  • Contribute to leadership and development initiatives under the guidance of the Lead Clinician and Associate Medical Director, aligning with the Trust's strategic objectives.
  • Ensure effective communication and staff engagement across the Directorate, assisting the Divisional Director in achieving their goals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other Directorates within the Trust.
  • Adhere to the Trust's framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including the formulation of clinical policies and compliance with established protocols.
Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

  • Full registration with the GMC.
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification.

Clinical Experience:

  • Clinical training/experience equivalent to ST trainees.
  • Experience in Gastroenterology and general medical conditions.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.

Management and Administration Skills:

  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Capability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge and Teaching:

  • Ability to instruct clinical skills to trainees and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Interest in leading multi-professional educational initiatives.
  • Capacity to function within a multidisciplinary team.
