Job Title: Complex Social and Psychological Needs Midwife

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced midwife to join our team as a Specialist Midwife for Women with Complex Social and/or Psychological Needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a dedicated team of professionals who are passionate about providing high-quality care to women and their families.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to women with complex social and/or psychological needs. They will work closely with the Topaz Team, Named Midwife for Safeguarding, and the Safeguarding Families Team to ensure that women and babies are safeguarded and their welfare promoted.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and team working skills, with a strong understanding of research-based practice and its application to maternity care. They will also have experience of working with diverse groups of women and a willingness to support students in accordance with the new SSSA standards.

About the Role

This is a fixed-term contract for one year, and the successful candidate will be responsible for providing care and support to women and their families with complex social and/or psychological needs. They will work in collaboration with multi-agency partners to ensure that women and babies cared for at Hillingdon Maternity Unit are safeguarded and their welfare promoted.

The post holder will work within a small geographically based team who currently support women as the named midwife through the antenatal and postnatal period. This service may change with the implementation of Continuity of Carer Teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to women with complex social and/or psychological needs.
  • Work closely with the Topaz Team, Named Midwife for Safeguarding, and the Safeguarding Families Team to ensure that women and babies are safeguarded and their welfare promoted.
  • Assume the role as Complex Social and/or Psychological Needs Specialist Midwife for our Trust, supported by the team leader.
  • Provide care and multi-agency working to women and their families to tackle inequalities and improve outcomes.
Person Specification
  • Registered Midwife
  • Active NMC PIN
  • Completion of Preceptorship programme
  • A willingness to support students in accordance with the new SSSA standards
  • Experience of working with diverse groups of women
  • Understanding of research-based practice and its application to maternity
  • Good level of skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Up to date and evidence-based knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of an interest/experience in safeguarding
  • Experience in community
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding within the NHS and partner agencies
