Job Description

Watson Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled Hardware Design Engineer to join our team in Cambridge. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative hardware solutions for our cutting-edge RF spectrum monitoring products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop detailed circuit designs, prototypes, and test and verification systems for our RF spectrum monitoring products.
  • Develop Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layouts, assemblies, and systems for manufacture.
  • Prototype test new designs and fix issues.
  • Produce design documentation to allow long-term support of the product.
  • Archive designs (software and hardware) to ensure company intellectual property is preserved.
  • Develop bespoke test tools for your designs, as required, using version control and collaborative software development.
  • Plan and prioritize your work to ensure that project timescales are met.
  • Provide weekly status reports/updates on your projects.
  • Liaise, as required, with manufacturing, product management, marketing, and after-sales support teams.
Requirements
  • PCB design layout experience in schematic design.
  • Ability to debug and fault find.
  • Knowledge of high-speed digital design.
  • Knowledge of radio systems architecture.
  • Knowledge of radio circuit simulation and design.
  • Experience with system test and characterization.
  • Hand soldering skills for prototype modifications.
  • Hands-on debugging skills using oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Ability to be flexible and work independently or as part of a team, as required.
  • Proactive self-starter, with excellent attention to detail and a passion for quality.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of Software Defined Radios and Digital Signal Processing algorithms.
  • Knowledge of RF test and measurement techniques using VNA, spectrum analyzers, power meters, etc.
  • Knowledge of bus protocols PCIe, SPI, I2C, Ethernet.
  • Experience in FPGA design using Verilog or VHDL design language.
  • Experience using Linux embedded systems.
  • Experience in using microcontrollers and SOC devices.
  • Experience in writing embedded software in C and Assembler.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping of RF designs and mechanical structures.
