Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Learning Support Assistant to join our team of professionals in the Gosport area. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual and small group support to students with SEND, working closely with teachers and other support staff to develop tailored learning plans.
  • Assist in implementing support plans, ensuring that each student's specific needs are met and that they make progress in their learning.
  • Support the class teacher in managing classroom behaviour, preparing resources, and creating a positive learning environment.
  • Encourage students to develop their independence and self-esteem by providing appropriate levels of challenge and support.
  • Assist in implementing strategies to support positive behaviour and de-escalate challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour, providing feedback to the class teacher and other relevant staff members.
  • Collaborate with external professionals, such as educational psychologists and speech and language therapists, to support student development.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational setting is essential.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND or SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • A compassionate and patient approach, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • The ability to respond to the changing needs of students and the school environment.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to working with other members of staff, supporting the wider school community.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
