Role Summary (Lead Laboratory Operations Technician)

The Laboratory Operations team is tasked with delivering a variety of essential services to our bioanalytical laboratories, ensuring compliance with GxP regulations. Core responsibilities include routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, preparation of reagents, cleaning of glassware, and conducting pipette performance assessments, all of which must be executed in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and documented within our internal Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

The primary objective of this role is to enhance the efficiency of operational teams by guaranteeing that laboratory support services are executed to the highest standards. This includes planning and overseeing the daily operations of a team of technicians, effectively organizing and prioritizing tasks to ensure that laboratory operations remain fully functional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage the daily activities of a small team, collaborating closely with the team coordinator and the broader Laboratory Operations Team.
  • Prioritize team workload effectively and adapt positively to challenges and shifting timelines.
  • Conduct laboratory support tasks, including equipment maintenance, performance checks of pipettes, cleaning of glassware, and preparation of reagents.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of continuous improvement initiatives within the Laboratory Operations team.
  • Provide line management for junior team members.
  • Facilitate training for other team and department members.
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with GLP standards.
  • Collaborate as part of a cohesive team, supporting one another to achieve client objectives.

Required Skills

  • Experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Desirable previous experience in line management.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Mathematics, English, and Science.

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
