Job Title: Revenue Services Legal Officer/Lawyer

Cheshire West and Chester Council is seeking a highly skilled Revenue Services Legal Officer/Lawyer to join our team. As a key member of our Corporate Debt team, you will provide high-quality legal and procedural advice to maximize amounts recovered on matters assigned by the Head of Transactional Services, Head of Legal Services, Corporate Debt Team Leader, or Legal Manager Litigation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic and technical advice to officers on complex matters and legal aspects of situations.
  • Act as the lead legal adviser to the Corporate Debt Team, Client Finance Team, and Adult Social Care team on contentious and non-contentious matters.
  • Lead transformation activity and manage organizational change and development within a financial/performance/commercial environment.
  • Manage complex cases, including drafting proceedings and agreements, researching points of law, conducting advocacy, and negotiating settlements.
  • Conduct litigation and enforcement action, and maintain excellent record-keeping.
Requirements:
  • Significant experience in finance, commercial, and/or performance environments.
  • Demonstrable record of completed projects of an original and technically challenging nature.
  • Excellent legal drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Good understanding of the work of the client teams.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision on complex matters.
