Carpentry Apprentice Trainer – 0.5 FTE (Working days Tuesday, Wednesday half day, Friday - Teaching Days Tuesday & Friday)

We are looking for a skilled and passionate Carpentry Apprentice Trainer to facilitate the development of future carpenters. The successful candidate will possess at least 5 years of professional experience as a qualified site carpenter (Level 3) and demonstrate a commitment to mentoring apprentices. This position entails the planning, delivery, evaluation, and assessment of both practical and theoretical training for apprentices, guiding them through their Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship (Level 2) and Craft Carpentry apprenticeship (Level 3) standards.
Main Responsibilities and DutiesApprenticeship Enrollment: Ensure that apprentices are registered in the appropriate apprenticeship standard that aligns with their career aspirations.Engagement: Communicate course content, objectives, assessment methods, and criteria with employers and apprentices during initial discussions.Employer Coordination: Confirm that employer sponsors provide a suitable range and scope of work that enables apprentices to practice essential skills, knowledge, and behaviors.Curriculum Planning: Create and implement well-structured lesson plans and Schemes of Work, preparing educational materials as necessary.Assessment and Feedback: Evaluate apprentices' work, offer constructive feedback, and assist them in submitting quality evidence via Smart Assessor E-portfolio.Collaboration: Partner with lecturers and workplace training officers to track apprentice progress and prepare progress reports for formal evaluations every 10-12 weeks.Monitoring and Support: Continuously assess student progress, behavior, and welfare, taking prompt action when necessary to address any issues.Final Assessment Preparation: Equip students for their final projects and End Point Assessments, collaborating closely with Training Officers to ensure preparedness.Safeguarding: Monitor and address any welfare or safeguarding concerns related to apprentices.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
  • Industry Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a qualified site carpenter to Level 3, with current skills and knowledge in contemporary building practices.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Assessment Qualifications: Ideally possess a qualification in assessing competency, such as TAQA, A1, or D32. Candidates with relevant assessment experience but lacking formal qualifications may still be considered.
  • Teaching Qualifications: Ideally hold a teaching qualification such as Cert Ed, CITLLS, PTLLS, DTLLS, DET, or relevant TAQA modules. Candidates with sufficient experience but without formal teaching qualifications may be considered, but will be required to complete a teaching qualification program.
