About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Trade Marks and IP Assistant to join our team at Sheridans. As a Graduate Legal Assistant, you will play a key role in the management of our clients' IP portfolios, including trade marks, copyright, designs, and domain names.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management of the IP portfolio of Sheridans' clients, including trade marks, copyright, designs, and domain names.
  • Maintain and update Sheridans' central database of trade mark registrations/pending applications and registered designs.
  • Assist in adherence to all national and foreign trade mark deadlines.
  • Review, prepare, draft, and send out search reports and watch notice reports to clients.
  • Assist with drafting trade mark applications.
  • Assist with drafting design applications.
  • Assist with preparing and filing trade mark oppositions and cancellation actions.
  • Assist with preparing draft responses to registry objections.
  • Liaise with overseas agents and request frequent status updates.
  • Amend documents.
  • Prepare recordal forms such as changes of name, address, representative.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated interest within trade marks and IP and ideally experience of a busy trade mark department, via work experience or another role post-education.
  • Awareness of WebTMS/IPPO is preferred.
  • A methodical approach to work with a strong focus on accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience liaising with senior internal stakeholders.
  • Enthusiasm, resilience, and a professional approach, with an excellent customer service ethic.
  • Self-starting approach, taking ownership of matters, tasks, and projects and the ability to work under own initiative and motivation.
  • Comfortable sharing knowledge with other team members, upskilling, and supporting other and more junior team members when necessary.
  • Commitment to being a collaborative team player and fostering an attitude that promotes comradery, creativity, and innovation.
  • Ability to liaise with, persuade, and influence colleagues and clients at all levels.
  • Ability to remain organized, prioritize, and multi-task particularly when managing a large workload under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work confidentially, remaining discreet at all times.
  • Flexibility towards working out of regular hours at busy times.

Qualifications

  • Accomplished academic background – i.e. strong GCSE and A-Level results and either a Bachelor of Law degree or a graduate diploma in law.
  • Desire to study towards the trade mark CITMA qualification (Queen Mary Course or LPC – ideally) and Nottingham Course (desired but non-essential).
