Position Overview
Are you an experienced and dedicated nurse seeking to advance your career? This is a remarkable opportunity for a skilled nurse leader to join the Women and Children's Directorate leadership team. The role is pivotal in overseeing the specialist Neonatal team across the South West Wales region. The successful candidate will exemplify strong clinical leadership and serve as a professional role model for nursing staff at various levels.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager for Neonates and maintaining professional accountability to the Directorate Nurse, you will work independently while closely collaborating with the Neonatal joint clinical leads. Your specialized expertise will guide the operational team and strategically support the directorate leadership in delivering exceptional neonatal care. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing training and educational initiatives within the service.
- Developing and providing competency-based training at the point of care.
- Overseeing specific neonatal nursing practice development across the Women and Children's Directorate.
- Prioritizing professional and service modernization efforts.
- Enhancing the patient experience for all infants and their families/caregivers.
Collaborative Efforts
Engage with various stakeholders, including Maternity and Paediatrics, to ensure a cohesive approach between nursing and medical staff, as well as inter-departmental teams.

Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
- Registered on part 1 of the NMC register or as a registered midwife.
- Demonstrated ongoing professional development within the specialty, linked to clinical competencies at the postgraduate diploma level.
- Evidence of continuous management development.
- Qualification in assessing and mentoring.
- Completion of the NLS Course.
Desirable:
- Master's degree in a healthcare-related field or willingness to pursue.
- Current leadership course or equivalent experience.
Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Senior Ward Sister/Charge Nurse or equivalent in neonatal intensive care.
- Experience in leading service improvements and managing complex change initiatives.
- Effective resource management experience.
- Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Awareness of the NHS agenda at both local and national levels.
- Recent experience in the specialty.
- Experience in leading and managing teams.
- Ability to measure and evaluate outcomes to inform service enhancements.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex information and identify service improvements.
Language Skills
Desirable:
- Welsh Speaker (Level 1).
