Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Bowel Cancer Screening Specialist to join our expanding team within the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about bowel cancer and screening, looking to enhance their nursing expertise.

The selected candidate will participate in a comprehensive national training initiative, culminating in a qualification in bowel cancer screening. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to undertake an advanced communication course to effectively support patients receiving cancer diagnoses.

While experience in Endoscopy or Gastrointestinal nursing is preferred, we welcome applications from both current and former Screening Practitioners. A structured induction program and mentorship will be provided to facilitate a smooth transition into the team.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will collaborate with a team of Screening Practitioners, delivering care to participants in the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting initial nurse-led assessment clinics.
  • Coordinating colonoscopy arrangements for patients during designated screening sessions.
  • Accompanying patients during colonoscopy procedures.
  • Facilitating discussions regarding colonoscopy results, including cancer diagnoses.
  • Acting as a patient advocate, ensuring individuals are well-informed to make educated decisions throughout the screening process.
  • Maintaining accurate records in both local and national databases for auditing and quality assurance.

This role requires autonomy in care coordination and a keen ability to address individual patient needs. Attention to detail in data entry and excellent communication skills are essential.
