About the Field Experimentation Team:

Our team is renowned for conducting advanced field trials across diverse crop varieties, providing essential support to researchers at the John Innes Centre. The successful candidate will collaborate with scientists to facilitate groundbreaking research in crop genetics through practical experimentation in a controlled agricultural setting.

Key Responsibilities:

The Agricultural Field Specialist will engage in various field operations, focusing on meticulously maintained small-scale experiments. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting field inspections to identify and manage potential threats from wildlife that may jeopardize valuable research plots.
  • Overseeing the upkeep of the Field Station and surrounding areas, which includes tasks such as mowing, trimming, hedge maintenance, and manual weeding, as well as applying appropriate herbicides when necessary.

Candidate Profile:

Ideal candidates will possess at least 5 GCSEs A*-C (or equivalent) and have prior experience in agriculture or horticulture, with a solid understanding of various crop types. Proficiency in computer skills and effective communication is essential, along with the flexibility to adapt to varying work hours and environmental conditions.

A willingness to operate a range of field machinery is crucial, including the ability to drive a tractor when needed.
