The role of the Assistant Fire Safety Manager is essential in maintaining the safety and security of our facilities. This position is designed for individuals with a military background, particularly British Veterans, who possess valuable skills in safety management, discipline, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Duties:
- Provide expert advice to staff and tenants regarding compliance with fire safety regulations.
- Maintain effective communication with local authorities and fire services to ensure adherence to safety standards.
- Guide design teams on fire safety considerations during construction and engineering projects.
- Keep detailed records of fire safety activities, including risk assessments and equipment maintenance.
- Conduct fire investigations as necessary.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams on specialized contracts related to fire safety systems.
- Work alongside the Principal Building Surveyor to develop fire safety strategies for future planning.
- Development Initiatives:
- Assist in the formulation and enhancement of fire safety policies and procedures.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and external partners to foster operational improvements.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.
- Participate in budget planning to ensure efficient delivery of fire safety services.
- Engage in professional development to prepare for responsibilities of the Principal Fire Officer when required.
- General Compliance:
- Ensure all actions align with sustainability objectives.
- Adhere to organizational policies regarding health and safety, equality, and information governance.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Possession of a diploma or equivalent in Fire Safety.
- Extensive experience in providing fire safety guidance on development and maintenance projects.
- Prior experience in a fire prevention role within the fire service, with a solid understanding of relevant legislation.
Desirable Attributes:
- Membership in the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE).
- Health and Safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Certificate).
- Experience in training others or relevant trainer qualifications.
- Awareness of environmental sustainability practices.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety policies.
