Job Overview
Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Senior Anatomical Pathology Technologist to join our Mortuary team. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong understanding of mortuary processes and a commitment to delivering high-quality services.
Main Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of mortuary services, including post-mortem provision for adults, perinatal/paediatric cases, and care of the deceased. They will also be the dedicated training lead for trainee APTs, ensuring they reach the required standard to pass the level 3 diploma.

Our Mortuary service performs approximately 200 post-mortems per annum and is a regional referral centre for perinatal cases. We are committed to supporting continuing professional development and have an excellent training record.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have a Level 4 Diploma or equivalent in Anatomical Pathology Technology, issued by RSPH. They will also have demonstrable knowledge of a wide range of mortuary processes, including internal quality assurance and control. Additionally, they will have a commitment to continued professional development and be able to perform all relevant manual and automated tasks in the department.
Key Skills
The successful candidate will be competent in mortuary and post-mortem techniques and troubleshooting, with the ability to analyse, interpret, and present routine data/results/concepts. They will also have working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet packages, and databases, as well as computer literacy with intermediate keyboard skills.
Working Environment
The Mortuary service is based at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, with other deceased holding units at St Bartholomew's, Newham, Whipps Cross, and Mile End. The successful candidate will be required to work independently and as part of a team, with the ability to work quickly, safely, and under pressure.
