The Performance Products division at Ricardo is looking for a Lead Quality Assurance Engineer to assist with New Product Development initiatives. This division is dedicated to providing specialized volume products and consultancy services across various sectors for numerous high-end brand clients.
Key Responsibilities
As a Lead Quality Assurance Engineer for NPI, you will oversee the quality of purchased components from initial concept through to mass production for the suppliers and projects assigned to you. Your primary objectives will include:
- Conducting supplier audits and participating in the selection process.
- Implementing Supplier Quality Assurance measures within the supply chain, including Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and conducting surveillance visits leading to product launch.
- Developing and managing customer quality specifications that can be communicated to the supply chain.
- Creating inspection documentation for goods received during both pre-production and production stages.
- Approving processes and components at the time of product launch.
- Collaborating closely with procurement, design, and systems engineers to ensure components are cost-effective, suitable for their intended purpose, and meet the required quality standards.
- Engaging in proactive and reactive supplier enhancement activities, including resolving parts quality issues using 8D and other industry-standard methodologies.
- Monitoring supplier quality performance, including verifying and implementing corrective actions during the pre-series phase.
- Managing the quality implications of product and process modifications.
- Reporting on project status against established targets, both internally and to clients.
- Supervising and mentoring the SQA Engineering team involved in these projects.
- Actively contributing to continuous improvement by developing and implementing new quality-focused processes and procedures within Ricardo.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in New Product Introduction and/or Supplier Quality Assurance or a comparable role, ideally within the automotive industry, though experience from other sectors will also be considered.
- Successful completion of PPAP.
- Familiarity with various manufacturing processes and components (e.g., casting, machining, molding, assembly, fabrication) and measurement techniques.
- Understanding of geometric design and tolerancing.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Knowledge of quality systems, tools, and techniques.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, demonstrating self-motivation.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with suppliers and clients at all levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated tenacity, resilience, and focus.
- Willingness to travel regularly to suppliers and customers both domestically and internationally, including the EU and USA, and possess a valid driving license.
- Engineering degree or equivalent professional experience.
Desirable Attributes
- Knowledge of automotive technology and product development processes.
- Lead Auditor certification in ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949.
- Familiarity with IATF standards.
- Practical experience in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- High ethical standards and integrity in dealings with clients, suppliers, and colleagues.
- Ability to self-manage and demonstrate resilience when working towards challenging objectives.
