About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Tax Manager to join our team at Pro-Tax. As a key member of our Private Client Tax department, you will be responsible for driving the delivery of personal tax advisory work, including writing reports and leading discussions with prospective and existing clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide support to partners and directors in the effective running of the team and in winning new business.
  2. Manage a portfolio consisting of a mix of clients with multiple sources of earned and investment income.
  3. Drive the delivery of technical advisory work on the portfolio.
  4. Handle one-off advisory and compliance assignments.
  5. Act as a key point of contact for clients.
  6. Deal with high net worth individuals and partnerships.
  7. Address a wide range of capital gains tax issues.
  8. Oversee the UK tax return filing process for a broad variety of clients.
  9. Monitor team progress against targets.
  10. Provide feedback and input into staff appraisals, as well as direct responsibility for appraising staff.
  11. Encourage the personal development of all team members.
  12. Suggest and implement changes to improve efficiency within the team.
Requirements:
  1. CTA Qualified, or other professional qualification with demonstrable relevant experience.
  2. Advanced understanding of core private client tax issues, including personal tax anti-avoidance legislation.
  3. Confidently interact with HMRC regarding complex issues on behalf of clients.
  4. Deliver advice confidently in transactional, litigious, or confrontational circumstances.
  5. Report on tax and other implications of incorporation of self-employment and businesses.
  6. Experience in Self-Assessment and preparation of tax computations.
  7. Demonstrable experience of report writing and ad hoc advisory work.
  8. Previous supervisory and management experience including reviewing the work of others.
  9. Planning for mitigation of Inheritance Tax including use of trusts and tax effect of lifetime transfers.
  10. Deal with inquiries into all aspects of direct taxation including experience of settlement and penalty negotiation.
  11. Experience with UK Trusts and Estates and UK trust account preparation and review is desirable.
Client Experience:
  1. Private clients and proprietors of owner-managed businesses (self-employed, partnerships, and small companies).
  2. Non-UK domiciled and non-resident clients, ideally including non-UK resident trusts.
  3. UK and non-UK based high net worth individuals.
  4. Property owning clients using corporate vehicles and trusts.
Enterprise:
  1. Understand clients' attitudes to risk and ensure advice is communicated clearly, correctly, and consistently.
  2. Recognize that tax advice is more than just technical analysis.
Business Building:
  1. Lead discussions with prospective and existing clients, pitches, proposals, and presentations on tax issues.
  2. Evidence regular referral of non-tax work to other parts of the business.
  3. Maintain own target list and evidence targeting actions, plans, and results.
  4. Proactively approach clients and contacts with ideas and possible opportunities.
  5. Show commercial judgment in improving the firm's efficiency and profitability.
Delivery:
  1. Take responsibility for WIP management and billing.
  2. Meet all internal and client deadlines.
  3. Determine and explain roles, set out expectations and responsibilities, empower and motivate team members to deliver.
Interpersonal Skills:
  1. Motivate and enthuse the team to follow the Firm's policies and procedures.
  2. Have the trust and respect of junior staff. Offer support when needed.
  3. Exhibit excellent communication skills, both written, verbal, and presentation.
  4. Ability to 'see the bigger picture' and act in the interests of the Firm and the team.
