Job Overview

Role Objective

The primary aim of this position is to assist the Risk Division in achieving its goal of protecting the financial and operational integrity of the organization by actively identifying, evaluating, mitigating, and overseeing risks across various departments and functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulation of strategic risk direction, including the application of current methodologies and processes.
  • Leadership of the risk department, which encompasses supervision of risk personnel, setting risk priorities and objectives, and ensuring departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Management of relationships with risk stakeholders, which includes identifying pertinent stakeholders and ensuring the quality of external third-party services.
  • Compliance with the Risk policy, standards, and frameworks, while maintaining a robust control environment.
Expectations for Assistant Vice President
  • Provide consultation on intricate issues; offering guidance to leadership to facilitate the resolution of escalated matters.
  • Identify strategies to mitigate risk and develop new policies/procedures in alignment with the control and governance agenda.
  • Assume responsibility for managing risk and enhancing controls in relation to the work performed.
  • Engage in work that is closely related to other areas, necessitating an understanding of how these areas coordinate and contribute to the organization's objectives.
  • Collaborate with other operational areas to stay informed about business activities and strategies.
  • Conduct complex data analysis from various internal and external sources, including procedures and practices, to creatively and effectively solve problems.
  • Communicate intricate information, which may include sensitive or challenging content.
  • Influence stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.

As a Risk Manager at Barclays, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our organization. In this dynamic position, you will be at the forefront of identifying gaps and trends, monitoring them accordingly, and aiming to reduce customer impact. Success in this role will be evaluated based on the following essential skills:
  • Expertise in Money Mules and Fraud Risk systems and their operational environments.
  • Comprehension of issues related to Money Mules and Fraud, including application, card, and non-card fraud.
  • Knowledge of Money Mules and fraud types, their typical characteristics, and key loss drivers.
  • A degree or equivalent in statistics, mathematics, operational research, or a related field, or significant relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in SAS/SQL/Java/Python/R.
  • Extensive experience in a data-intensive environment.
  • A proven track record in data analysis and building predictive models using standard statistical packages such as SAS (preferred) for large financial institutions.
