About the Job:
The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for planning and executing CNC programs to control contour path machining of metal/composite parts on automatic machine tools. This role requires a strong background in precision engineering, with experience in manufacturing mechanical components to high tolerances in various metals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyzing drawings and design data to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates.
- Computing angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlining the sequence of operations required to machine parts.
- Creating, revising, and editing CNC programs in line with routed operations, and creating set-up documents to supplement written programs.
- Liaising with shop floor personnel, Shift Managers, and suppliers regarding required tooling and fixtures.
- Creation of bills of material for manufactured components and routings for manufactured components, including route card improvements.
- Analyzing and advising on make vs purchasing decisions, and identifying and implementing solutions that lead to cost savings.
- Applying principles of Lean Manufacturing to reduce setup times and improve productivity, and actively seeking out and identifying Continuous Improvement opportunities.

Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in off-line CNC programming, using CAD/CAM software within a lean-manufacturing work environment.
- Previous experience with Gibbs CAM software is an advantage.
- Qualified to a minimum of NVQ 3, or equivalent such as a time-served apprenticeship or HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
- Prince2 or similar project management experience would be an advantage.
