Job Overview

Position: Advanced Biomedical Scientist – Haematology & Blood Services

Compensation: HCAS (Inner or Outer) based on assigned location

An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the Pathology Partnership of Barts Health NHS Trust, specifically in the Haematology Department, where we are seeking skilled Advanced Biomedical Scientists across various locations.

We are looking for dedicated team members who possess a proactive approach to flexible working, with a commitment to enhancing the clinical services of the Trust and addressing patient needs through participation in a 24-hour shift system.

The successful candidates will primarily operate at designated sites but may be required to provide support across other locations based on service demands.

The Pathology Partnership encompasses several key sites, including major hospitals equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories that are UKAS accredited and utilize advanced laboratory information management systems.

Main Responsibilities

The Advanced Haematology section is outfitted with cutting-edge diagnostic systems, while the Specialist Haemostasis section provides a comprehensive testing repertoire to support various Comprehensive Care Centres.

The ideal candidate MUST be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist and have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio.

Note: Candidates without the completed IBMS Specialist Diploma may be considered under an Annex 21 contract, with training support provided for completion of the diploma.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent, along with the IBMS Certificate of Competence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development.
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in a large medical laboratory setting.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • A minimum of 3 years of post-registration diagnostic experience in Haematology & Blood Services.
  • Familiarity with computerized laboratory information systems.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with various diagnostic techniques in Haematology.

Knowledge

  • Advanced scientific knowledge relevant to the discipline.
  • Understanding of UKAS and Quality Management Systems.
