Compensation for this role is competitive, offering up to $20.00 per hour.

At The Norfolk Companies, a family-owned business with a rich history of over 85 years, we are looking for dependable and customer-focused individuals to join our delivery team as Delivery Assistants.

Your workday will commence at 6:30 am, Monday through Friday, where you will review your delivery route, conduct a pre-trip inspection of your vehicle, and ensure all necessary products are loaded for delivery. Safety is paramount, and double-checking your load is essential.

As a Delivery Assistant, you will collaborate closely with a driver to ensure timely and safe deliveries. This role involves regular heavy lifting, as items such as cabinets typically weigh between 45-60 lbs. You will also interact with customers to follow any specific instructions regarding the placement of materials.

Proficiency with mobile delivery technology is required, as you will need to utilize mobile devices for confirmations, GPS navigation, and communication. Organizational skills are vital for successful deliveries and for completing the electronic paperwork associated with each order.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate equipment and ensure all loads are secure at all times.
  • Manage electronic communication while the vehicle is in motion, adhering to legal restrictions on cell phone use.
  • Stay vigilant for changing road conditions and assist the driver during backing, parking, and navigating close to structures.
  • Help the driver deliver items to customer locations, ensuring no damage occurs to merchandise or property.
  • Assist in picking up merchandise from customers or vendors, verifying items against sales orders or packing slips.
  • Maintain physical fitness to perform daily delivery tasks.
  • Lift items weighing 45-60 lbs regularly, and up to 100 lbs with assistance.
  • Exhibit strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Read and comprehend English; bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Utilize handheld devices for delivery recordkeeping and communication as needed.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close and night vision.
  • Moderate to heavy noise levels in the work environment.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Frequently required to walk distances over 200 yards on various surfaces.
  • Lift and carry fragile items weighing over 80 pounds for moderate distances.
  • Climb stairs to deliver products as necessary.
  • Regular exposure to heavy equipment such as delivery vehicles.
  • Visit construction sites and handle construction materials.
  • Subject to post-accident drug and/or alcohol testing while employed.
  • Required to wear safety gear as dictated by delivery locations.
