Job Description

Job Title: Patient Safety Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Patient Safety Manager to join our Corporate Patient Safety Team at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting patient safety across the organization, working closely with clinical and non-clinical staff to identify and mitigate risks.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement patient safety strategies to reduce harm and improve quality of care
  • Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical staff to identify and address patient safety concerns
  • Provide education and training on patient safety best practices
  • Support the systematic review of patient safety incidents and develop recommendations for improvement
  • Advise on the application of the national Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) to managing risk and safety

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the Health Service and current national initiatives, particularly in relation to Clinical Governance and patient safety
  • Excellent communication, presentational, training, and report writing skills
  • Skills in the analysis and interpretation of information
  • Knowledge of CQC lines of enquiry
  • Advanced Microsoft Office training (specifically Word and Excel)
  • PSIRF Syllabus Training
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Post graduate degree or working towards (Masters level)
  • Teaching and Training qualification
  • Completed an accredited Patient Safety training programme
  • Experience of advising and liaising with staff at all levels, preferably in the NHS and academic institutions
  • Experience of project management or leading a change project
  • Evidence of successfully leading change management projects involving multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in reviewing or managing patient safety incidents
