Lead Clinical Pharmacist

Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

NHS Scotland is recognized as one of the largest healthcare organizations in the UK, employing a diverse workforce of approximately 40,000 individuals across various clinical and non-clinical roles. Our services encompass acute hospital care, primary healthcare, community support, and mental health services, catering to a population exceeding 1.15 million.

This dynamic position entails collaboration with General Practitioners (GPs) and multidisciplinary teams in primary care to enhance medication management and ensure outstanding patient care. The role includes the delivery of pharmacotherapy services as part of the GP contract, playing a crucial role in assisting patients with their medication needs. This patient-centered position will require you to assume a prescribing role and develop your own clinical caseload in alignment with the objectives of the Achieving Excellence strategy.

You will be an integral member of the East Dunbartonshire Pharmacy team, which aims to enhance the quality and cost-effectiveness of prescribing and medication utilization for patients within the East Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP). Your responsibilities will involve close collaboration with GPs, practice staff, community pharmacists, care home personnel, and other healthcare professionals to foster the development and implementation of high-quality, safe, and evidence-based prescribing practices.

In this role, you will provide tailored clinical care to patients in various settings, including GP practices and care homes, through dedicated clinics aimed at improving the safety and efficacy of their medications, with prescribing authority where appropriate. A solid foundation in clinical knowledge, proficient IT skills, and exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities are essential, along with the capacity to work independently and as part of a team.

Participation in joint projects and initiatives within the HSCP will be expected, alongside the promotion of awareness regarding medication management issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Independent prescriber status or a commitment to achieve this qualification
  • A minimum of 2 years' post-registration experience

Commitment to Professional Development: You must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. This position requires travel between GP practices and care homes to fulfill job responsibilities. Experience working directly with primary care teams and familiarity with GP systems would be advantageous.

Diversity and Inclusion: NHS Scotland encourages applications from all community sectors, fostering a culture of inclusion and celebrating our diverse workforce.

For further information: Details regarding the recruitment process can be found in the Candidate Information Packs.
