Position Overview
East Lancashire Alliance (ELA) operates as a community interest organization dedicated to delivering services to our GP practice members while providing a diverse range of patient services. Our clinical offerings are managed by experienced clinical leads who collaborate closely with Federation managers.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this role is to meticulously extract clinical data from both manual and digital patient health records. This information will then be analyzed to assign the correct clinical codes, ensuring compliance with established rules, regulations, and protocols associated with clinical coding, utilizing the GP's clinical computer system.
Maintaining a high level of accuracy in clinical coding is crucial, as it directly influences the revenue generation and funding for the practice.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Providing coverage for absent coding personnel as needed, ensuring uninterrupted data coding services.
- Once adequately trained, working independently on routine coding tasks while seeking guidance from a supervisor when necessary.
- Engaging effectively with the coding team, physicians, nursing staff, and other relevant personnel regarding coding matters.
- Resolving coding inquiries by consulting with the line manager and collaborating with other medical staff.
- Managing personal workload to guarantee accuracy and completeness in meeting targets, while communicating any challenges to the Line Manager.
Confidentiality & Information Governance
Confidentiality is paramount in this role. The post holder will have access to sensitive documents and information related to patients, service users, staff, and contractors. Such information must not be disclosed to anyone outside or within the organization unless it is part of the normal duties of the position. Breaches of confidentiality will be subject to disciplinary action.
All information obtained during employment that pertains to the business of ELA and its service users will remain the property of ELA. The post holder must ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and maintain high standards of quality in both corporate and clinical record-keeping.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
The post holder is expected to take reasonable care of their own health and safety, as well as that of others who may be affected by their actions at work. Cooperation with ELA in adhering to safety regulations is essential.

Qualifications

- Good general education or equivalent.

- Qualifications in Medical Terminology.
