Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience
Role Summary:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is accountable for overseeing all fiscal operations within the Michigan School Public Relations Association. This includes, but is not limited to, managing accounting functions, conducting annual financial audits, overseeing payroll systems, and administering treasury management. The CFO will also lead budget formulation, compliance with state and federal regulations, grant management, and risk assessment. This role is pivotal in strategic planning and operational management of the financial department. The CFO will be a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to the overall direction and effectiveness of the organization. This is a full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct and oversee all financial activities, including accounting operations, audits, payroll, and budget management. Lead the development of financial strategies and long-term financial planning. Ensure accurate and detailed recording of all financial transactions. Supervise all accounting processes and systems. Manage the organization’s assets and insurance policies. Implement a robust budget control system to support administrative decision-making. Provide strategic financial advice to the executive team regarding business operations. Assist in the recruitment and development of finance department personnel. Coordinate comprehensive financial audits. Communicate financial insights to stakeholders effectively. Oversee accounts payable and procurement processes. Collaborate with departments to develop specifications for purchases and negotiate contracts. Provide financial data for collective bargaining negotiations. Manage employee benefits programs. Supervise budget development for various programs and funds. Actively participate in executive leadership meetings and relevant committees. Maintain accurate records of district properties and financial transactions. Build and sustain relationships with financial institutions and regulatory bodies. Stay informed on school finance reforms and related issues. Oversee tax collection processes and compliance with legal obligations. Review and enhance internal controls in line with auditing standards. Ensure compliance with all financial reporting requirements. Generate invoices as per cooperative agreements. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws and regulations affecting financial operations. Responsible for the upkeep of financial management software. Perform additional duties as assigned by the executive team.Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field, with a minimum of five years in a similar role. Experience in educational finance and accounting is preferred. Must meet continuing education requirements and possess or be eligible for relevant financial certifications. Human resources experience is a plus.Required Skills and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting practices. Proficient in financial accounting systems and software applications. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
