POSITION SUMMARY
To qualify for this role, candidates should meet the following criteria:
  • Possess or be willing to obtain the necessary security clearance.
  • Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering with substantial hands-on experience in relevant systems and equipment.
  • Have completed an accredited training program for Authorised Persons and have a minimum of five years of practical experience in this capacity.
  • Have successfully finished an Authorising Engineer training course within the last five years.
  • Be knowledgeable about the various types of equipment and systems relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of electrical systems and installations.
  • Exhibit competency in management tasks and possess knowledge of electrical safety guidelines.
  • Have completed a recognized electrical apprenticeship or hold an industry-standard electrical qualification.
  • Provide evidence of skills and experience in developing and managing electrical safety systems.
  • Preferably have prior experience in an Authorising Engineer role.
  • Be working towards or have achieved Chartered or Incorporated Engineering status.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of health and safety regulations, risk assessments, and safety management systems.
  • Be familiar with the latest electrical regulations.
  • Hold a valid SMSTS or equivalent qualification.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Evaluating and recommending qualified Authorised Persons to ensure adequate coverage for all systems.
  • Investigating electrical incidents and ensuring safety procedures are updated accordingly.
  • Defining the scope of responsibilities for each Authorised Person.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive register of Authorised Persons and ensuring they meet qualification standards.
  • Conducting regular audits and reviews of Authorised Persons to ensure compliance and competency.
  • Coordinating investigations of electrical incidents and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Providing guidance and training to Authorised Persons to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Reporting any deficiencies in the number of qualified personnel to senior management.
  • Conducting thorough audits of safety systems and procedures, providing detailed reports and recommendations.

The overarching goal of the Electrical Safety Engineer is to ensure the highest standards of electrical safety management are maintained in accordance with established procedures and regulations.
