About the Role

We are seeking a Safety Engineer to become a vital part of our Safety and Environmental Team. In this role, you will be responsible for producing and delivering safety documentation to support our defence and industry contracts.

As a Safety Engineer, your passion for safety and your ability to provide independent and reliable safety advice will be essential. You will ensure the timely, quality, and budget-compliant delivery of safety documentation while meeting client expectations. Your expertise in safety and risk management techniques will enable you to assist our clients in fulfilling their safety obligations.

This position allows for hybrid working arrangements, with potential requirements to visit or work on client sites as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute tasks as directed by the Safety & Environmental Lead Engineer within the safety and environmental team.
  • Develop safety documentation in accordance with various applicable standards.
  • Ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery of safety documentation.
  • Adhere to the procedures outlined in the Bailie Group Safety & Environmental Management System, maintaining the quality standards described in the Quality Management System.
  • Support Project Safety and Environmental Panels (PSEPs).
  • Prepare Safety and Environmental Case Reports (SECRs) and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
  • Contribute to project aspects to meet client needs and agreed margin contributions.
  • Ensure project aspects are delivered within client boundaries while achieving the agreed margin contributions.

Required Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency and understanding in the following areas:

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic team member, preferably with a UK Defence background in engineering, risk management, or system safety; however, experience from other regulated sectors will also be considered.

Practical experience in the following areas is essential:

  • Development and management of hazard logs.
  • Facilitating hazard identification and review meetings.
  • Authoring safety assessments and safety case reports, including justifying the ALARP status of products.
  • Knowledge of statutory safety legislation and compliance management is advantageous.

Strong communication skills and the ability to present information professionally, both verbally and in writing, are crucial for this role. We value analytical thinking and teamwork.

Self-motivation is key, and a recognized technical qualification in Engineering is preferred. Candidates should be working towards IEng or CEng status.

Eligibility to satisfy UK Ministry of Defence security requirements and obtain Security Clearance (SC) is necessary, with a willingness to hold Developed Vetting (DV) if required.

Eligibility to work in the UK is a prerequisite for consideration.
