Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated full-time Senior Psychiatric Consultant to join our esteemed team at Cygnet Health Care. This role involves providing comprehensive medical oversight and care for patients in a specialized mental health facility, focusing on women with complex needs.

The successful candidate will assume the role of Responsible Clinician, ensuring the highest standards of care for all inpatients. You will also be tasked with auditing the medical services provided, maintaining compliance with the General Medical Council (GMC) standards and other relevant professional guidelines.

In this position, your expertise will be crucial in delivering transformative treatment, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, including qualified nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.

You will have opportunities for career advancement, including pathways to Medical Director roles through our management development programs.

Key Responsibilities

Cygnet Health Care operates a 29-bed mental health facility dedicated to women's services.

Our services are divided into two specialized wards:

  • A 14-bed complex personality disorder service for women, addressing dual diagnoses of personality disorders and co-occurring eating disorders.
  • A 15-bed acute service for women, providing a safe environment for those experiencing severe mental health crises.

The focus of our complex personality disorder service is on collaborative treatment, tailored to individual needs, and driven by evidence-based practices and multidisciplinary support. This approach empowers service users to enhance their quality of life and overall functioning.

As the Responsible Clinician, you will oversee patient treatment plans, collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team, which includes psychologists, occupational therapists, and registered mental health nurses.

You will be expected to exemplify a positive attitude towards patients, their families, and colleagues, serving as a role model within the team.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Fully GMC registered with MBBS (or equivalent) qualifications
  • Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), with Section 12 and AC Status
  • Extensive experience in adult psychiatry and mental health
  • Knowledgeable about the Mental Health Act and related legislation
  • Excellent communication skills for patient assessment and treatment
  • Committed to ongoing professional development
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent

Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
