Electronics Design Engineer Job Description

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electronics Design Engineer to join our team at BlueGate Consulting. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for the design of new products and the maintenance and upgrade of existing products.

You will manage design projects from conception to volume manufacture, ensuring that they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design and develop electronic systems and products, including schematic, PCB layout, mechanical, and software design.
  • Specify microcontrollers for embedded systems and program in C.
  • Ensure full test and validation of designs before release for manufacture.
  • Test and report for compliance to relevant standards.
  • Create production test solutions.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and support New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Work with purchasing and suppliers to select cost-effective technologies.
  • Aid junior engineers in their development.
  • Provide engineering support to other parts of the business as required.

Requirements

  • Degree-level education in electronics.
  • Experience in design for manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of analogue and digital circuits and PCB layout.
  • Programming skills in C for embedded design (STM32 preferred).
  • Programming skills in Python for testing solutions.
  • Practical experience in hand-building and debugging prototype circuits.

Desirable Skills

  • Programming skills in VB/VBA.
  • Knowledge of LEDs for lighting applications.
  • Lighting controls and sensors.
  • Switch-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS).
  • Battery charging.
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).
