We are seeking an experienced and talented professional to join our team as an Associate Director - Rail Infrastructure. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading Waterman Rail projects, including planning and management of scope, cost, quality, risk, safety, health, and environment issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Waterman Rail projects, including planning and management of scope, cost, quality, risk, safety, health, and environment issues.

  • Manage and deliver significant high-value programs of major multi-disciplinary infrastructure bids and projects.
  • Client engagement to support rail sector growth.
  • Maintain and further develop the existing teams to continue delivering world-class engineering projects on time and to budget.
  • Understand and meet the client's business needs and ensure they feel confident in our commitment to deliver.
  • Brief and direct project teams to ensure the work is carried out cost-effectively and to specification.
  • Capable of working under pressure, delivering high-quality written reports and compelling bids to tight deadlines.
  • Contribute to bid leadership and develop winning proposals for our target opportunities.
  • Manage and coordinate delivery of rail bids working closely with technical discipline leads.
  • Ensure our culture of safety and commitment to the environment is maintained and promoted throughout our delivery teams.
  • Report to Rail sector director on projects progress and status on a fortnightly basis.
  • Represent Waterman with clients for projects under responsibility.
  • Work within the Waterman project management system using Waterman specified project management tools and procedures to deliver projects.
  • Project planning, including developing and executing project execution plans for all projects under responsibility.
  • Lead cross-discipline project teams, building team capability and stakeholder confidence.
  • Manage the flow of information between the Waterman teams, client, and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and apply performance management techniques, including the use of KPIs to improve project performance.
  • Manage the change control process. Ensure the production of formal progress and other reports to project directorate and management.
  • Responsible for delivering revenues assigned from specific clients as a result of repeat business caused by flawless execution of projects.
  • Consistently deliver profit margins planned.
  • Consistently complete projects without write-downs or erosions.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities.
  • Direct other Project Managers in recognizing risk and uncertainty with plans to mitigate and eliminate such.
  • Direct staff to operate and minimize exposure to claims.
  • Experience of managing sub-contracts as a means of delivering key works.
  • A track record of innovation, embracing new ways of working, and use of digital tools.
  • Experience of Design & Build either working in a Contractor organization within Design-based organization working with contractor and can demonstrate great ability to control these activities.
  • Knowledge of different contracting types, especially target cost. Experience of resolving disputes, leveraging contracts to grow opportunities.
  • Ability to ensure robust programs are in place. Provide evidence of ability to use programs to report clearly to key stakeholders and delivery against milestones.
  • Familiar with Network Rail, TfL, and major contractor clients delivery process through demonstrable project experience.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with a strong background in rail infrastructure projects. You will have a degree in engineering and preferably Chartered status. You will also have a full UK driving license and experience in the UK rail sector in a particular engineering discipline or multidisciplinary rail projects.
