Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Site Operative to join our Recycling Centre service team at Hertfordshire County Council. As a key member of our operational team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our waste management facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the senior operative on site, providing guidance and support to colleagues when the site manager is absent.
  • Ensure the safe opening and closing of the site, including the management of documentation and records.
  • Manage the implementation of new waste streams and improvements to the service, working closely with the site manager and other stakeholders.
  • Provide excellent customer service, advising residents on how to dispose of their waste and ensuring that work is carried out to a high standard.
  • Support and manage a team of operatives, including providing training and guidance as needed.
  • Act as the first aider and fire marshal on site, ensuring that all safety procedures are followed.

Requirements:

  • Proven track record of delivering excellent customer service and ensuring work is carried out to a high standard.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise residents on waste disposal and provide guidance to colleagues.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, work safely, and follow procedures.
  • Experience of working under prolonged periods of sustained physical effort.
  • Ability to support and manage a team of operatives.
