Position Overview

We are seeking a Configuration Control Specialist to join our Above Water Systems (AWS) division. This role can be based in various locations across the UK.

As a Configuration Control Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting AWS-UK's initiatives during the early phases of project capture, throughout program execution, and into ongoing support. You will be tasked with customizing and implementing the Configuration Management System to meet relevant requirements, ensuring the integrity of configuration information.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute CM planning for both new and ongoing projects, establishing a tailored CM implementation strategy.
  • Assist in identifying contract and subcontract requirements to ensure effective CM performance among partners and suppliers.
  • Create, maintain, and implement the CM Plan in line with policies and contractual obligations.
  • Define, uphold, and ensure compliance with CM requirements for contractors and suppliers.
  • Conduct audits and assessments of contractors and suppliers to verify adherence to CM processes and deliverables.
  • Ensure accurate definition of products and their associated data.
  • Engage in design and stage reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.).
  • Establish and maintain configuration baselines (FBL, ABL, PBL).
  • Participate in selecting configuration items and developing product breakdown structures and Bills of Materials.
  • Manage the configuration change management system, including internal and external change control boards.
  • Coordinate and oversee the configuration change process for design modifications, including item changes, document alterations, deviations, waivers, and trial modifications.
  • Ensure traceability of design changes throughout the design and implementation phases.
  • Maintain and release the Configuration Status Report (CSR) to track configuration management phases and milestones.
  • Capture, verify, and control configuration information related to 'as built', 'as installed', 'as tested', and 'as maintained' states.
  • Plan and conduct configuration verifications and audits (PCA & FCA).
  • Foster a proactive, solution-oriented mindset within the team and encourage innovative thinking.
  • Delegate tasks effectively within the CM team.
  • Provide insights on the efficiency and effectiveness of the development environment.
  • Report on CM Key Performance Indicators.
  • Assist in generating project estimates.
  • Facilitate the flow of information regarding key engineering issues.

Travel Requirements:
Occasional travel to other Thales sites within the UK and to the Netherlands may be necessary.

Candidate Profile:
  • Proficient in standard configuration management processes and tools, particularly those associated with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
  • A degree in engineering, science, or mathematics, or equivalent vocational experience dealing with complex challenges.
  • Strong understanding of operational processes and methodologies (Bids & Projects, Engineering, Production, and Services).
  • Solid knowledge of system integration principles (System, Hardware, and Software).
  • Adept at adapting and assessing configuration management systems in line with contractual and commercial requirements.
  • Familiar with Lean Management approaches and Agile principles in team management and development.
  • Capable of managing complexity and thriving in dynamic environments.
  • Knowledgeable in Hardware and Software CM practices and tools.
  • Skilled in gaining buy-in by effectively communicating needs and initiatives.
  • This role requires full Security Clearance; candidates must either currently hold or be able to obtain full clearance.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience in configuration management within defence or engineering sectors or involvement in MOD project delivery.
  • Familiarity with standards such as DEF Stan 00-057.
  • Experience with Windchill PLM software.
