Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation, is seeking a Benefits Assessment Officer for an initial 3-month contract. This role will be remote-based, with a rate of £25/hour (umbrella) for 37 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
• Process and pay Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, Discretionary Council Tax Reduction, and Local Welfare Assistance applications promptly and correctly, adhering to legislation and procedures.
• Resolve telephone, face-to-face, and written enquiries from residents, landlords, external agencies, and other departments to their conclusion.
• Provide advice on welfare assistance and signpost customers to other agencies for help and support when necessary.
• Ensure the accuracy of Council Tax account information, resolving any discrepancies that may affect the financial award.
• Take or initiate action to recover overpayments of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, and Discretionary Council Tax Reduction, in line with policies and procedures.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
• Relevant experience in Housing Benefit and Council Tax rebate assessment.
• Strong customer service skills, with a focus on understanding and meeting customer needs.
• Excellent numerical and financial calculation skills.
• GCSE English and Maths grade A – C or equivalent.
• Ability to take responsibility for quality and completion of own work within standards.
• Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change in a busy and demanding work environment.
• Experience of using NEC Northgate Revenues & Benefits and/or Capita Academy.
