Job Description:

The Health and Safety Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being of our employees and the success of our renewable energy projects. This dual-site position will encompass environmental, health, and safety management, focusing on providing a safe working environment and collaborating with operations teams to enhance current systems and drive improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Maintain Health and Safety Management Systems: Establish and maintain robust health, safety, and environment management systems, including ISO14001, ISO45001, and ISO9001.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant UK legislation, including site construction regulations, waste management, and COSHH.
  • Promote a Strong Health and Safety Culture: Develop effective policies, procedures, and training packages to ensure compliance and promote a strong health and safety culture.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments: Review and conduct risk assessments, design strategies to minimize hazards, and generate SSOW based on findings.
  • Manage Accidents and Incidents: Record and manage all accidents, incidents, and near misses, including root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
  • Ensure Equipment Compliance: Ensure compliance with work equipment regulations (PUWER, LOLER) by maintaining a register and ensuring statutory maintenance.
  • Engage with Stakeholders: Engage across sites to implement health and safety policies, ensuring compliance with legislation, and liaise with employees, subcontractors, and suppliers on H&S matters.
  • Support R&D and Engineering Teams: Coach and support R&D and engineering teams to generate new solutions to H&S issues.
  • Implement H&S Strategy: Work closely with the COO to ensure the successful implementation of the H&S strategy.
  • Support Occupational Health: Support the COO with any occupational health issues.
  • Communicate H&S Performance: Communicate positive H&S performance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Host H&S Meetings: Host monthly H&S meetings, conduct training, toolbox talks, inductions, and investigate incidents as required.
  • Audit and Inspect: Undertake audits and inspections, identify areas for improvement, and report findings.
  • Develop Training and Competency Matrices: Develop training and competency matrices for all staff.
  • Promote Workplace Well-being: Engage employees in safety initiatives and promote workplace well-being.
  • Perform Additional H&S Duties: Perform any other H&S duties and responsibilities as required to maintain and improve company safety.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Health and Safety Management Experience: Demonstrated Health & Safety management experience across chemicals or engineering.
  • Background in Chemical, Engineering, and/or R&D: Background in chemical, engineering, and/or R&D (desirable).
  • NEBOSH Diploma: NEBOSH Diploma (advantageous)
  • Knowledge and Experience in Developing and Auditing Safety Management Systems: Knowledge and experience in developing and internally auditing safety management systems based on legislation and ISO 45001, desirable).
  • Development, Management, and Audit of Health and Safety Management Systems: Development, management, and audit of health and safety management systems (minimum HSG65).
  • Passion for Health, Safety, and Well-being: Passion for health, safety, and well-being, with the ability to drive initiatives independently.
  • Knowledge of Explosive Regulations 2014: Knowledge of Explosive Regulations 2014 (desirable).
  • Strong Organisational Skills: Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise multiple projects effectively.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Full Driving Licence: Full driving licence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
