Job Duties

- Ensure the effective supervision of the Patient Meals Services Team, maintaining food safety standards and timely service delivery.

- Conduct annual performance reviews for team members, completing necessary documentation and forwarding it to management.

- Manage staff attendance, conducting return-to-work interviews and liaising with management regarding absence policies.

- Organize work schedules and plan activities within the Patient Meals Services Team.

- Oversee staff rosters to ensure adequate coverage in all service areas.

- Ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements for all team members.

- Promote adherence to food service best practices at all times.

- Address and rectify any issues related to patient meal errors and implement corrective actions.

- Ensure proper stock rotation and usage of food items in accordance with safety guidelines.

- Collaborate with ward staff and dieticians to meet patient dietary needs.

- Communicate effectively with patients as needed, utilizing strong interpersonal skills to address any language or understanding barriers.

- Investigate and resolve user complaints, implementing effective solutions as necessary.

- Promote the highest standards of food hygiene and safety in compliance with relevant legislation and Trust policies.

- Maintain cleanliness standards as outlined in the cleaning schedule.

- Ensure all catering staff adhere to hygiene protocols.

- Foster a respectful and polite interaction with all customers and patients.

- Support the Catering Management Team in the evaluation and enhancement of catering services, proposing policy improvements as needed.

- Assist in responding to inspections from the Environmental Health Department.

- Communicate effectively with all levels within the Trust and with external partners.

- Understand and ensure departmental standards are met by the catering team.

- Undertake project work as assigned by the Catering Services.

- Implement processes to minimize food waste effectively.

- Ensure efficient allocation of work within set timeframes and optimal use of staff resources.

- Assist the Catering Management Team in meeting budgetary requirements and targets.

- Support the development of Trust Catering Services to enhance income and manage costs effectively.

- Ensure secure and efficient ordering and receipt of supplies in line with Trust policies.

- Manage departmental sick leave in accordance with attendance policies.

- Facilitate the induction and training of new staff members.

- Maintain accurate records as required.

- Report and monitor mechanical issues with equipment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Supervisory skills and Customer service training to NVQ3 equivalent

Desirable

  • Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate

  • Previous supervisory experience in a large-scale catering environment
