Position Overview
We are seeking two dedicated and proactive Evening & Weekend Library Assistants to become part of our dynamic team within the Philosophy and Theology Faculties lending library. Your responsibilities will encompass front-line reader services, operating at the library desk to provide circulation assistance, engaging with the University's online library catalog, and utilizing the automated library management system. You will address straightforward reader inquiries both in person and through digital channels. Additionally, your role will involve retrieving and re-shelving books, scanning text extracts for our Scan & Deliver service, and contributing to various projects, including the organization of materials for offsite storage.
Role Requirements
This is a fixed-term position with variable hours, requiring a commitment of 2 to 5 hours weekly during term time. The post-holder will typically work 1-2 hours per week in the evenings from Monday to Friday, along with rotating Saturday shifts.
Physical Demands
The role necessitates the ability to lift and transport boxes of library materials, maneuver trolleys, and utilize ladders and kick-stools to access certain shelves.
Candidate Profile
A strong emphasis on customer service and a dedication to delivering high-quality support are crucial. You should possess a flexible and collaborative mindset, with the capability to prioritize tasks and perform under pressure. Proficiency in IT, particularly with Microsoft Office applications, is essential, alongside the ability to execute routine library tasks with precision. While experience in academic libraries and familiarity with automated library management systems is advantageous, comprehensive training will be provided.
