Job Summary

Barchester Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Second Chef to join our team. As a Second Chef, you will play a key role in assisting the Head Chef in creating nutritious and well-balanced menus for our residents. You will work closely with the Head Chef to develop menus that cater to the diverse needs and preferences of our residents, while maintaining high standards of quality and presentation.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Chef in menu planning and preparation, ensuring that all dishes are nutritious, flavorful, and visually appealing.
  • Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Work with fresh seasonal produce to deliver high-quality dishes that meet the highest standards of quality and presentation.
  • Develop and maintain a warm and welcoming environment in the kitchen, promoting a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef to develop and implement new menu ideas and concepts, ensuring that they meet the needs and preferences of our residents.
  • Manage stock control and inventory, ensuring that all ingredients and supplies are ordered and stored efficiently.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure that all kitchen operations are running smoothly and efficiently.

Person Specification
  • City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent qualification in culinary arts or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and residents.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
  • Experience working with fresh seasonal produce and a passion for creating nutritious and flavorful dishes.
