About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Scientist and Medical Physics Expert to join our Radiation Protection team at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in radiation protection and medical physics, with expertise in diagnostic radiology. They will be responsible for ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, and staff who come into contact with ionising radiation and lasers.

The role will involve providing comprehensive radiation protection, diagnostic radiology physics, and X-ray services, as well as patient and staff dosimetry audits, QA instrument calibration services, and staff training.

The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of relevant legislation and approved codes, and will be able to develop processes and procedures to ensure good compliance.

They will also be responsible for advising on the application of relevant legislation and developing processes and procedures to help Trust departments achieve good compliance.

The successful candidate will be a state-registered Clinical Scientist, with a strong background in radiation protection and medical physics. They will also be accredited as a Medical Physics Expert with RPA2000.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive radiation protection services, including patient and staff dosimetry audits, QA instrument calibration services, and staff training.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to ensure good compliance with relevant legislation and approved codes.
  • Advise on the application of relevant legislation and develop processes and procedures to help Trust departments achieve good compliance.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure the safe use of ionising and non-ionising radiations in diagnostic radiology, radiotherapy, and biomedical research.
Requirements
  • State registration as a Clinical Scientist.
  • Accreditation as a Medical Physics Expert with RPA2000.
  • Good understanding of relevant legislation and approved codes.
  • Strong background in radiation protection and medical physics.
