Job Title: Autism Specialist

Dunbar Education is seeking an experienced Autism Specialist to join a school in Hertford.

About the Role:

This position involves providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism, helping them navigate academic and social challenges.

  • Work closely with the SENCO and teachers to adapt learning plans and strategies for individual needs.
  • Implement behaviour management techniques and sensory strategies to support the emotional well-being of pupils.
  • Communicate clearly with parents, teachers, and external professionals to ensure a joined-up approach in supporting the pupils.
  • Help create a structured, predictable, and safe learning environment that supports the unique needs of children with autism.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • At least 6 months of experience working with children with autism in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of autism and how to adapt teaching and behaviour strategies to meet individual needs.
  • A calm, patient approach and the ability to manage challenging behaviours.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or a specialism in SEN (not compulsory).
  • A DBS on the update service.
