Job Summary

The HVAC Systems Engineer role sits at the core of our business, responsible for the development of new HVAC systems, production of design documentation, technical support to commissioning teams, and through-life design change and upgrades. This role offers a unique opportunity to experience the full product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Develop clients' requirements into viable system designs, including the production of:
    • Engineering drawings
    • System Grouping
    • Heat load Calculations
    • Output calculations
    • Cooling duty calculations (using psychometric charts)
    • Heating calculations
    • Humidification calculations
    • Air filtration (including Chemical Biological Nuclear and Radiological)
    • Protected air citadel calculations
    • Duct sizing calculations
    • System simulation
    • Pressure drop calculations
    • Noise calculations
    • Cost estimates
  • Control Philosophy: Develop and manage the control philosophy for HVAC systems
  • Equipment Specification: Specify and select equipment for HVAC systems
  • System Integration: Manage the HVAC systems interface with other ship systems, including:
    • Platform Management System
    • Low Voltage Electrical Distribution System
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Liaise with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, including:
    • Technical support to both internal and external client/supplier design reviews
    • Integration, validation, and safety reviews
    • Supplier and subcontractor design deliverable reviews, including factory acceptance trials
  • Design Intent: Maintain design intent throughout the project lifecycle
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (HNC plus vocational experience will be considered)
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards
  • Proven design experience with Marine HVAC Systems
  • Experience with Defence Standards and Classification Societies rules
  • Proven client interface capability
  • Ability to lead engineering teams
  • Proficient in 2D AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with system shock requirements
  • Proficient with Microsoft office software
What We're Looking For
  • Theoretical knowledge to solve technical problems where applicable, applying new techniques and technologies
  • Knowledge to deliver innovative designs and services, taking technical responsibility for engineering systems
  • Accountability for project, finance, and personnel management, and managing trade-offs between key project factors
  • Full security clearance will be necessary; a valid DBS/Disclosure Scotland certificate is mandatory
