Engineering Manager, Ubuntu Server Distribution

**About the Role**

Canonical is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Ubuntu Server team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for managing a globally distributed team of engineers and driving the development of the Ubuntu Server Distribution.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers to deliver high-quality software.
  • Develop and implement talent management strategies to grow and retain top engineering talent.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu Server and your team.
  • Effectively communicate with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders to set and manage expectations.
  • Advocate for modern software development practices and develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices.
  • Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with Canonical's values.
  • Participate in strong engineering processes through code and architectural review.
  • Engage with teams at Canonical, the open source community, and commercial partners to drive innovation and growth.
  • Oversee the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family and plan and deliver Ubuntu Server features.

**Requirements**

  • 3+ years of experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers, with experience managing distributed teams a plus.
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about software development, with a strong track record of delivering timely, high-quality software.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment and with modern GNU/Linux distributions, Debian or Ubuntu preferred.
  • Practical experience with at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English.
