**About the Role**
Canonical is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Ubuntu Server team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for managing a globally distributed team of engineers and driving the development of the Ubuntu Server Distribution.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers to deliver high-quality software.
- Develop and implement talent development strategies to grow and retain top engineering talent.
- Collaborate with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu Server and your team.
- Effectively manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
- Advocate for modern, agile software development practices and develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices.
- Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with the company values.
- Participate in strong engineering processes through code and architectural review.
- Engage with teams at Canonical, the open source community, and commercial partners.
- Oversee the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family and plan and deliver Ubuntu Server features.
- Work from home with global travel for up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.
**Requirements**
- 3+ years of experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers, with experience managing distributed teams a plus.
- Knowledgeable and passionate about software development, with a strong track record of delivering timely, high-quality software.
- Experience working in an agile development environment and a Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar degree.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English and experience with a modern GNU/Linux distribution, Debian or Ubuntu preferred.
- Practical experience with at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services.
