London, Greater London, United Kingdom King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

This is a full-time clinical role within a prestigious healthcare institution, collaborating with a diverse team to deliver both elective and urgent care for patients in the ophthalmology sector, specifically focusing on pediatric and neuro services. This position is ideal for experienced professionals who possess foundational training in pediatrics and neuro-ophthalmology, aiming to enhance their skills and broaden their clinical exposure. The selected candidate will have consistent access to specialized surgical lists.

Candidates must hold MRCOphth or an equivalent qualification, and be eligible for full or limited registration with the relevant medical council at the time of hiring. Additionally, candidates must be authorized to work within the healthcare system.

Proficiency in performing cataract surgeries independently is essential, along with prior experience in pediatric surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Regular clinical responsibilities will be centered at the healthcare facility, encompassing the management of both outpatient and inpatient cases, including ward referrals. The incumbent will also participate in the on-call schedule, providing ophthalmic care to patients in affiliated hospitals. Urgent referrals from general practitioners, optometrists, and emergency departments are typically managed through a structured appointment system, although some cases may necessitate immediate attention from the on-call team.

Each day, there will be designated on-call trainees, participating in a rotational schedule. The first on-call trainee is required to remain available in the facility until the designated time, while the second on-call trainee will assess and consult with the on-call consultant regarding any emergency admissions or surgical needs.

The healthcare institution is recognized as one of the largest and most dynamic teaching hospitals in the region, with a significant annual turnover and extensive patient interactions. The organization offers a comprehensive range of local and specialized services across multiple sites. Our strategic vision emphasizes excellence in patient care, innovation in research and education, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

We are at a crucial juncture in our evolution and seek individuals who are prepared to contribute to a highly skilled team, making a meaningful impact on patient care and organizational culture.

The institution is dedicated to promoting sustainable healthcare practices and has established ambitious carbon reduction targets in alignment with national initiatives. Every team member's contribution is vital in achieving these sustainability goals, and we encourage responsible practices to minimize environmental impact.
