Bids and Proposals Engineer - Electrical Controls

We are seeking a skilled Bids and Proposals Engineer to prepare proposals for our electrical and controls engineering projects, primarily focusing on Automotive Body Shop Automation projects.

About the Role

This is a permanent position based in Bedford with hybrid working arrangements. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating costs for technical solutions, working with the Applications team to understand their scope of supply, and developing best costs for their requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate costs for technical solutions presented - mechanical, electrical, and software.
  • Work with the Applications team to understand their scope of supply and develop the best costs for their requirements.
  • Collaborate with the strategic procurement team to develop best costs for a given application from a broad supply base.
  • Conduct cost-based research and analysis with stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate cost risks.
  • Manage the bid process from receipt of RFQ through to submission.
  • Ensure costs and proposal documents satisfy all internal Leidos processes and gateways.
  • Develop proposals with key stakeholders.
  • Work as part of a bid team and adapt as required to ensure workload is prioritized.
Requirements
  • Experience in preparing bids for Electrical and Controls Engineering work.
  • Commercial acumen.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Strong understanding of MS Office packages.
  • Ability to read CAD drawings.
  • Good technical literacy skills.
Experience
  • Proven experience in Electrical and Controls Engineering, preferably with some experience in responding to RFQs and preparing proposals.
  • Ideal knowledge of manufacturing automation methods and processes.
  • Understanding of project costs - design, management, manufacture, installation, and suppliers.
  • Ability to converse with other internal departments on a technical level to review and proceed to an agreed outcome.
  • Ideal qualification in an engineering subject, such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering, but qualified through experience will also be considered.
