We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Cardiac Physiologist/Clinical Scientist to join our expanding team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing support to the Head of Cardiac Implantable Devices in the operational management of the service.
Main DutiesThe successful candidate will be expected to work as an independent practitioner in cardiac device implantation and follow-up, as well as invasive cardiology. This includes the follow-up, implantation, and extraction of loop recorders, pacemakers, ICDs, and CRTs. You will be actively involved in the following areas of practice:
- Simple and complex device implant, follow-up, and extraction, including pacemakers, ICDs, CRT, S-ICD, leadless, epicardial, and conduction system pacing.
- Simple and complex electrophysiology.
- Structural Intervention, including TAVI, Mitraclip, Valvuloplasty, ASD/VSD/PFO closure, other percutaneous congenital interventions, and left atrial appendage occlusions.

Person SpecificationThe ideal candidate will possess a BSc in Clinical Physiology/Cardiac Physiology or equivalent, with evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with RCCP/ACHS/HCPC guidelines. British Heart Rhythm accreditation in Cardiac Implantable Devices or equivalent is also essential. Desirable qualifications include teaching or assessing qualifications, leadership and management qualifications, and British Heart Rhythm accreditation in Cardiac Electrophysiology.
The successful candidate will have significant post-qualification experience in Cardiac Implantable Devices and Electrophysiology, with experience in provision of training and education. They will also have a successful completion of device/electrophysiology logbook or accreditation. Desirable experience includes working with surgical/epicardial pacing, device extraction, clinical research, and implantation of ILRs.
The ideal candidate will be able to support the 24-hour on-call service, be physically able to move equipment, handle patients, and respond to emergency situations, including the ability to perform CPR. Ability to participate in 7-day working is also desirable.
